The Pommard Premier Cru appellation belongs to the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy and has built its reputation on characterful red wines. The vineyards extend across slopes with limestone and marl soils, whose composition varies from one vineyard site to another. This diversity helps nuance the expression of the different vineyards classified as Premier Cru.
The traditional grape variety of the appellation is Pinot Noir. It produces structured wines with pronounced substance and notable ageing potential. The 2022 vintage reflects this Burgundian identity, with a wine from the Les Rugiens vineyard. The Premier Cru classification highlights the quality and singularity of the terroir, while leaving the producer to express its character precisely through winemaking and maturation.
This red Pommard is intended for lovers of profound, food-friendly Burgundian wines, capable of accompanying rich cuisine without losing their precision. It can also be appreciated for the insight it offers into its origin and vintage.
Domaine Joannes Violot-Guillemard produces this Pommard Premier Cru Les Rugiens 2022 with respect for the identity of its appellation and vineyard. Based in Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune, the domaine places this wine within a parcel-by-parcel approach characteristic of Burgundy’s great terroirs.
The reference to the Les Rugiens vineyard and its Premier Cru classification place this wine among the most sought-after expressions of Pommard. The 2022 vintage offers an opportunity to discover a contemporary interpretation of a renowned terroir, without separating the structure expected of the appellation from the elegance characteristic of Burgundian Pinot Noir.
Serve this wine between 15 and 17°C, after opening it in advance to encourage its expression. Decanting may be considered depending on its development at the time of service, particularly in its youth. Generously sized glasses will allow its depth and evolution in the glass to be better appreciated.
At the table, this Pommard will naturally accompany Burgundian cuisine, particularly beef bourguignon, a roasted veal cutlet or poultry with mushrooms. It can also pair with roast duck, delicately prepared lamb or soft, mature cheeses. Overly powerful or highly spiced sauces could, however, mask the finesse of the Pinot Noir.
Thanks to the appellation’s structure and its Premier Cru classification, this bottle can be kept for approximately 8 to 15 years in a cool, dark and stable cellar. It may be enjoyed earlier for its energy, or left for a few years to gain in harmony and complexity.
