- Burgundy - Côte de Beaune
The Pommard appellation is located on the Côte de Beaune, specifically between the villages of Volnay and Beaune. In the past, the lands of the appellation were owned by the Dukes of Burgundy as well as religious establishments such as the Abbey of Citeaux. The appellation exclusively produces red wines from the Pinot Noir grape and includes twenty-eight Premiers Crus, the most renowned are Les Rugiens and Les Epenots.
Located between 250 and 330 meters in altitude, the Pommard vineyard faces east and southeast. Its terroir is composed of marl, limestone, and clay; the mid-slopes are relatively well-drained thanks to a more stony soil and the natural slope.
Pommard wines are characterful with a well-defined structure. In their youth, their color is purple, and it is often wise to age them for a few years to allow them to reveal their full potential. The nose offers spicier and deeper notes, with aromas of pepper or even chocolate.
Pommard wines are among the best in the Côte de Beaune and pair perfectly with beef or lamb dishes.
