The History of Maxime Crotet Estate
Maxime Crotet is a young and passionate winemaker from Burgundy. He learned how to make wine with Frédéric Cossard in Saint-Romain for about ten years. It was there that he learned organic vineyard farming as well as mastering winemaking using natural methods. However, the history of Maxime Crotet's estate began in 2021 when he acquired his own winery in Beaune. Without owning a vineyard, he started a negoce activity, sourcing grapes from winegrowers who share his ideas and values.
Viticulture and Vinification: The Estate's Philosophy
Maxime aims to work with high-quality grapes from environmentally respectful agriculture and biodiversity. In the cellar, winemaking is done as naturally as possible, minimizing interventions and additives. White wines are generally aged in stainless steel tanks. For reds, the wines are first fermented in tanks and then aged in barrels. These barrels allow for micro-oxygenation, which helps stabilize and refine the wine.
The Wines of Maxime Crotet
The 2021 vintage was challenging and scarce in Burgundy so Maxime turned to grape varieties from other regions. He only vinified a few Pinot Noirs from Côtes de Nuits, then sourced grapes from the Rhône Valley, Jura, and Beaujolais. In 2022, with much better yields, it was an opportunity for Maxime to express his identity through several Burgundy climates : Bourgogne Chardonnay, Macon, Maranges...
