The History of Domaine Guffens-Heynen

The Domaine Guffens-Heynen is located in Vergisson, in the Mâconnais, and was founded in the late 1970s by Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen. Quickly recognized as one of the highest-quality estates in southern Burgundy, Guffens-Heynen has become a benchmark reference for the great white wines of the Mâconnais.

The estate farms more than 5 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the appellations Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Pierreclos, and Saint-Véran, with a demanding approach inspired by the great estates of the Côte de Beaune. Through his precise work and constant pursuit of quality, Jean-Marie Guffens has greatly contributed to the international recognition of the great Chardonnay wines of the Mâconnais.

Viticulture and Winemaking: The Estate Philosophy

At the estate, viticulture is based on practices that are both simple and respectful of living ecosystems. The vines are worked using a crawler tractor to preserve soil structure, and treatments are strictly limited. No insecticides or herbicides are used, as the estate follows a reasoned approach to plant protection, using only inputs authorized in organic farming when necessary. Jean-Marie Guffens advocates an independent philosophy, deliberately distant from any certification logic. In the cellar, this philosophy continues with manual harvesting of fully ripe grapes, assessed primarily through tasting. Considering that wine quality depends directly on fruit quality, harvests are most often carried out through several successive selections to retain only perfectly ripe berries.

The estate produces exclusively white wines from Chardonnay. The cuvées are renowned for their aromatic intensity, precision, and balance between richness and freshness.
