JABOULET AINE

The History of Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné

Founded in 1834 in Tain-l'Hermitage by Antoine Jaboulet, Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné is closely tied to the history of the great wines of the northern Rhône Valley. The estate then grew under the leadership of his sons, Paul and Henry, and later generations. In 1919, the family acquired the Saint-Christophe chapel, located at the top of the Hermitage hill, which has become a symbol of its history.

Since 2006, the house has been run by Caroline Frey, who has gradually steered the vineyard towards organic farming and biodynamics. Organic certification was obtained in 2016 and, since 2021, the entire vineyard has been farmed biodynamically. Caroline stepped down from the management role in 2024, handing over to Delphine Frey.

Viticulture and Vinification: The Domaine's Philosophy

Paul Jaboulet Aîné places the preservation of soils and vines at the center of its approach. The house carries out various experiments to improve soil structure and the vines' ability to cope with challenges such as water stress.

In the cellar, winemaking is designed to preserve the integrity of the grapes and let the particularities of each terroir express themselves.

In the cellar, winemaking is carried out gently in order to preserve the integrity of the grapes and the expression of the terroirs. Aging is tailored to each cuvée and may involve concrete eggs, truncated conical vats, barrels or demi-muids. The house also states that it has significantly reduced the use of oak for its white wines in recent years.
