The History of Domaine René Bouvier

Founded in 1910 in Marsannay by Henri Bouvier, Domaine René Bouvier embodies more than a century of family history in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Taken over by René in the 1950s, the estate experienced significant growth under the leadership of Bernard Bouvier, who assumed management in 1992. Heir to a know-how passed down through several generations, he gradually expanded the vineyard while modernizing the facilities and asserting a strong identity focused on the precision of terroirs.

Today located near Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate covers around 30 hectares exclusively situated in the Côte de Nuits, with a historic presence in Marsannay, an appellation of which the Bouvier family is one of the leading ambassadors. The diversity of the parcels, ranging from regional appellations to Premier and Grand Crus, offers a complete and nuanced expression of Burgundy’s great terroirs.

Viticulture and Winemaking: The Estate’s Philosophy

In the vineyard, Domaine René Bouvier favors meticulous parcel-by-parcel work in order to preserve soil vitality and the natural balance of the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for rigorous selection and optimal respect for the raw material. The vines have long been managed according to the principles of organic farming. The estate obtained organic certification in 2013, before continuing this philosophy since 2016 without official certification.

In the cellar, Bernard Bouvier primarily seeks precision and transparency of the terroir. The vinifications combine Burgundian tradition with contemporary precision, featuring controlled extractions and barrel aging adapted to each cuvée in order to accompany the wine without masking its origin. This approach gives rise to wines combining finesse, energy, and aromatic depth, hallmarks of the estate’s style.

The Wines of Domaine René Bouvier

The Pinot Noir occupies a central place in the estate’s production (23 ha), complemented by cuvées of Chardonnay and Aligoté (7 ha). Marsannay forms the historic heart of the range, with renowned climats such as Clos du Roy, Les Longeroies, Champ Salomon, and Le Finage, revealing the full diversity of this increasingly recognized appellation.

The estate also produces wines from prestigious appellations such as Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vosne-Romanée, including several Premier and Grand Crus. The wines stand out for their balance between structure and elegance, their aromatic precision and their great aging potential, offering a faithful and contemporary interpretation of the Côte de Nuits.
