Location

Le Clos de Vougeot is one of the most iconic appellations of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Created by the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux in the 12th century, this legendary parcel is now a Grand Cru spanning nearly 50 hectares, entirely enclosed by walls. Situated between the communes of Chambolle-Musigny to the north and Vosne-Romanée to the south, the Clos de Vougeot appellation exclusively produces red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. This clos is divided among several owners, but all the wines produced in this historic clos benefit from the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru appellation.

Soils

The terroir of Clos de Vougeot is rich and complex, with soils that vary depending on the altitude and position within the vineyard. The upper sections, near the château, are composed of limestone and gravel, imparting finesse and elegance to the wines, while the lower areas, richer in clay, produce more full-bodied and powerful wines. The vineyards' eastward orientation and their altitude (between 240 and 280 meters) ensure ideal sunlight for the perfect ripening of the Pinot Noir.

Wine Caracteristics

The wines of Clos de Vougeot are renowned for their impressive structure and their ability to age for several decades. In their youth, they reveal aromas of black fruits such as blackberry, black cherry, and blueberry, with spicy and floral hints. As they age, they develop more complex notes of undergrowth, truffle, and leather. On the palate, they are powerful, with robust tannins that soften over the years, offering wines of great depth and elegance.
