The History of Méo Camuzet Estate
The Méo-Camuzet Estate, located in Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, is one of the jewels of the Côte de Nuits. Its history is marked by influential figures who have shaped its exceptional wine heritage. In the early 20th century, Étienne Camuzet, a winemaker and deputy of the Côte-d'Or from 1902 to 1932, significantly expanded the estate by acquiring prestigious parcels, including the Richebourg Grand Cru, Clos de Vougeot, and vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée.
After the death of his daughter Maria Noirot in 1959, the management of the estate was entrusted to Jean Méo, a close relative and technical advisor to General de Gaulle.
Viticulture and Winemaking : The Estate's Philosophy
The Méo-Camuzet Estate takes a meticulous approach to viticulture, emphasizing respect for the terroir and the quality of the grapes. The vineyards are cultivated using sustainable practices, with particular attention given to limiting yields to ensure optimal concentration of aromas. Manual harvesting and rigorous sorting of the grape clusters ensure that only the best fruits are vinified.
In the cellar, the estate favors a minimally interventionist winemaking approach to fully express the fruit and the terroir. Fermentations are carefully managed, and aging takes place in oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new barrels, to provide structure and complexity to the wines. This philosophy aims to produce wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm, while respecting the personality of the terroir and the vintage.
