The History of Domaine Mugnier
Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is a true benchmark in the Côte de Nuits, based in Chambolle-Musigny, a terroir renowned for producing the most elegant Pinot Noirs in Burgundy.
The estate’s story dates back to 1863, when it was acquired by the Mugnier family, then distillers in Dijon. After being under a sharecropping arrangement for many years, the estate was re-established in its current form by Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier in 1978. From that point on, he began a patient recovery of his wine heritage, notably with the 2003 reacquisition of Clos de la Maréchale, a monopole in the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru appellation.
Today, the estate spans around 14 hectares and produces some of the finest, purest, and most sought-after wines in Burgundy, each with a distinctive signature.

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier embodies a vision of wine grounded in subtlety, precision, and humility. The vineyard work follows a reasoned approach, respectful of the soil and natural rhythms—without certification, but with practices close to organic viticulture.
The winemaking is minimally interventionist, with no added yeast or corrective techniques. The ageing process is discreet, allowing each terroir to fully express itself.
