Guillaume Chaize

The History of Domaine Guillaume Chaize

The Domaine Guillaume Chaize represents the arrival of a new generation of winemakers in the Northern Rhône. Originally from the region, Guillaume Chaize produced his first vintage in 2024, at just 22 years old, after naturally taking over family vineyards complemented by leased parcels in the northern Rhône Valley.

His journey reflects a demanding training path: his first vinification at the age of 15 with Xavier Mourier, followed by several formative experiences, notably alongside Stéphane Ogier in Côte-Rôtie, while continuing his studies in viticulture and oenology in Beaune. After obtaining his diploma, he spent nine months in Australia making wine with Adam Foster, widely recognized as a specialist of Syrah.

Upon returning to Burgundy, he refined his approach alongside William Kelley, a respected taster known for his high standards, and later with Didier Delagrange in Volnay, further developing his precision in expressing terroir. Since December 2023, Guillaume Chaize has been established in the Rhône with a clear ambition: to produce distinctive Syrah wines that remain faithful to their origin.

Viticulture and Winemaking: The Estate Philosophy

The estate’s philosophy is based on a simple principle: respecting living ecosystems as much as possible, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The parcels are farmed organically, with particular attention paid to soil work and the natural balance of the vineyard.

Part of the activity currently includes négociant wines, but with strong qualitative standards and rigorous grape selection.

In the long term, Guillaume Chaize aims to work exclusively with estate-owned vineyards in order to fully control the expression of his terroirs.

In the cellar, the approach prioritizes precision and clarity of fruit expression, with aging adapted to each cuvée to preserve finesse and aromatic energy. The objective is to produce wines that are structured yet approachable, combining depth with drinkability.

The Wines of Domaine Guillaume Chaize

The wines of Domaine Guillaume Chaize highlight the emblematic grape varieties of the Northern Rhône, with Syrah playing a central role for the reds. The cuvées seek a balance between aromatic intensity, freshness, and tannic precision, offering expressive and gastronomic wines.

The white wines are made from Viognier, crafted with a modern approach aimed at preserving the grape variety’s aromatic purity, allowing it to express itself through an elegant and balanced profile.

The estate also stands out through an original artistic collaboration built around a collection of six labels conceived as true works of art, inspired by the unique identity of each wine. This approach combines artistic creation with winemaking expertise, transforming each bottle into both an object of expression and a tasting experience.
