CELLIER SAINT BENOIT

Cellier Saint Benoit – Arbois-Pupillin Wines from the Jura

Four Generations of Winemakers in Pupillin

Located in Pupillin, in the heart of the Jura vineyards, Cellier Saint Benoit is a family estate whose history spans four generations. Originally, the Benoit family practiced mixed farming and brought its harvests to the village's wine cooperative.

It was Denis Benoit, representing the third generation, who chose to devote his activity entirely to winegrowing and to develop winemaking at the estate. In 2003, he founded Cellier Saint Benoit in the former family farmhouse, marking a new chapter in the estate's history.

Today, his son Benjamin Benoit carries on this work after training in viticulture in Beaune and gaining several professional experiences in Burgundy and New Zealand. His approach combines the know-how handed down by previous generations with particular attention to the terroirs and the characteristics specific to each parcel.

The Slopes of Arbois-Pupillin, a Diversity of Terroirs to Reveal

The vineyard of Cellier Saint Benoit stretches across the slopes of Pupillin, a village known for the singularity of its wines within the Arbois appellation. Since 1970, wines from this defined area have been entitled to the Arbois-Pupillin designation, underlining the village's winemaking identity.

The estate works with the main grape varieties of the Jura: Ploussard, Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Chardonnay and Savagnin. Each one expresses a different facet of these slopes, through red and white wines with distinct profiles.

This diversity is reflected in the cuvées named after their lieux-dits, notably Chambines, Les Viandris, La Ronde, Côte de Feule, Courbes Raies, Les Charots, Les Plantées and Le Grapiot.

Careful Work from Vineyard to Cellar

At Cellier Saint Benoit, vineyard work is based on an approach that is attentive to the soils and their preservation. To limit erosion on the slopes, Benjamin Benoit favors working the soil with light equipment, notably tracked machinery.

The estate practices sustainable farming, with hand-harvesting and a deliberately limited production. This approach goes hand in hand with a desire to control every stage of winemaking, from growing the grapes to vinifying them.

In the cellar, methods are adapted to the grape varieties and cuvées. The Pinot Noir Courbes Raies, for example, is vinified with whole clusters, a technique intended to reveal the maximum of its aromas.

All of this work reflects a pursuit of precision, in which respect for the raw material and the expression of terroir play an essential role.

From Ploussard to Savagnin, the Cuvées of Cellier Saint Benoit

At RP Fine Wines, the 2023 vintage selection includes four cuvées of Ploussard, the emblematic grape variety of Pupillin: Chambines, Les Viandris, La Ronde and Côte de Feule.

The Pinot Noir Courbes Raies completes this selection of red wines, while the Chardonnay Les Charots offers a different expression of the Arbois-Pupillin terroirs.

The Savagnin Les Plantées and Le Grapiot round out this selection, showcasing another essential grape variety of the Jura vineyards.
