Domaine Bonneau du Martray

The History of Domaine Bonneau du Martray

Domaine Bonneau du Martray is one of the most legendary and oldest estates in Burgundy. The history of the estate dates back several centuries, specifically to 775 when Emperor Charlemagne gifted his vineyards to the Abbey of Saulieu

Over time, through family inheritances, the vineyard gradually became the property of the Bonneau du Martray family. In 1969, René Bonneau du Martray passed the estate to his nephew Jean Le Bault, Count of La Morinière. In 1994, his son Jean-Charles Le Bault de la Morinière took over the estate and steered it towards organic farming.

Today, the estate is owned by Stanley Kroenke, an American businessman who also owns the Screaming Eagle estate in California. Domaine Bonneau du Martray strives to produce exceptional wines from the highest quality grapes grown in Grands Crus classified climates.

Viticulture and Vinification : The Estate's Philosophy

The vineyard spans 11 hectares classified as Grands Crus and located on the Corton hill. In terms of viticulture, the guiding principle is respect for the vine and the surrounding biodiversity. The estate began experimenting with biodynamic viticulture in 2004 and ultimately obtained Demeter certification in 2013. For winemaking, the estate’s team selects the finest grapes to produce wines of remarkable quality.
