Location

Échezeaux is a prestigious Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, located at the heart of the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux. This vineyard, spanning approximately 35 hectares, is bordered to the north by Clos de Vougeot and to the south by the Grand Crus of Vosne-Romanée. Established in 1937, the Échezeaux appellation is divided into eleven lieux-dits or "climats," each contributing distinct nuances to this exceptional terroir. This Grand Cru is exclusively dedicated to producing red wines made from Pinot Noir, celebrated for its complexity and character.

Soils

The soils of the Échezeaux appellation stand out for their composition of marl, clay, and limestone. The higher parts of the vineyard, rich in stones, promote a slow ripening of the grapes, resulting in elegant and refined wines, while the lower, more clay-rich areas impart structure and richness to the wines. Situated between 250 and 300 meters in altitude, the vines benefit from an ideal east-facing orientation, ensuring optimal exposure and sunlight conducive to the balanced ripening of Pinot Noir.

Wine Caracteristics

Échezeaux wines are renowned for their aromatic complexity and remarkable depth. In their youth, they reveal aromas of red and black fruits such as raspberry, cherry, and blackberry, complemented by floral and spicy notes. With age, they develop nuances of forest floor, licorice, and truffle, gaining intensity and complexity. On the palate, Échezeaux wines are powerful yet balanced, with silky tannins and a long, persistent finish.
