- Burgundy - Côte de Nuits
Location
Gevrey-Chambertin is an appellation in the Côte-de-Nuits in Burgundy. It is the largest Village Appellation in Côte-de-Nuits, covering just over 400 hectares. Located between Fixin to the north and Morey-Saint-Denis to the south, the appellation includes no fewer than 26 Premiers Crus Climats, produced in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon. The Gevrey-Chambertin appellation also produces nine Grands Crus, the most famous of which is Le Chambertin.
Soils
The soils of the appellation are of varied composition: the most stony areas, composed of red silt, give the wines finesse and elegance, while the more clay-rich zones provide body and structure to the wines. The vineyards are situated at an altitude between 280 and 380 meters, with the Village plots located in the lower part, while the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus are found in the higher part of the appellation. The parcels benefit from good exposure, as they are mainly oriented to the east and southeast.
Wine caracteristics
The Gevrey-Chambertin Appellation produces wines that, in their youth, offer aromas of fresh fruits such as strawberry, blackberry, and violet. With age, the wines develop more licorice and animal notes, as well as a darker hue. On the palate, they are wines with a beautiful structure and velvety tannins.
Gevrey-Chambertin wines will captivate you in their maturity, especially thanks to their great aging potential, don't wait to taste them!
