Domaine Denis Mortet is located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. The adventure began in 1956, when Charles Mortet acquired a hectare of vines. Gradually, the family expanded their estate, and it was not until 1993 that Denis Mortet took full control and founded the estate in his name. After Denis' death in 2006, Arnaud Mortet, along with his mother Laurence, managed the property, preserving the family style while refining it.
The estate now covers about 16 hectares, including Grand Cru plots (Bonnes-Mares, Mazis-Chambertin) as well as many Premiers Crus and villages in and around Gevrey. The vines are spread over several municipalities: Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, etc.
At the estate, we advocate moderation in everything, each choice is thought to respect the past and express the terroir with authenticity. In the vineyards, Arnaud Mortet reduced the use of plowing to preserve the soil structure, encouraged natural grazing, and worked in reasoned control (and experiments with organic viticulture).
The harvest is manual, with rigorous sorting.
In the cellar, the vinifications aim for more sweetness and expression: reduction of new wood, more vinification in whole bunches (depending on the cuvées), measured extraction. For example, for the Gevrey-Chambertin cuvée « Mes Cinq Terroirs », we observe: 33% whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, aging 18 months in barrels (25% new wood).
The estate produces remarkable wines from prestigious terroirs. Among the most emblematic appellations:
- Gevrey-Chambertin « Mes Cinq Terroirs »: compilation of 5 famous sites (En Motrot, Au Vellé, En Champs, En Derée, Combe du Dessus), pinot noir, old vines, careful breeding.
- Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru: estate owned, in limited quantity each year.
- Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru: small vineyard plot, rare wine of the estate.
Beyond these prestigious cuvées, the estate also produces wines in the village appellation, Premiers Crus, and other local wines spread over its various plots.
The wines of the estate are often praised for their silky texture, fruity purity, finesse of the tannins and their fidelity to the terroirs.
