The History of Domaine Bruno Colin
Bruno Colin joined the family estate Michel Colin-Deleger in 1993, where he learned the craft alongside his parents and his brother. In 2003, the family estate was divided into three separate entities: Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger, Domaine Philippe Colin, and Domaine Bruno Colin. From his very first vintage in 2004, Bruno began to express his own vision in the production of his wines.
Viticulture and Winemaking: The Estate’s Philosophy
Today, the estate covers 8.55 hectares, spread across the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Dezize-les-Maranges. In the cellar, barrel ageing is deliberately limited to 12 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak, around 15%, so as never to overshadow the expression of the terroir. The wines then spend an additional 4 to 6 months in tank before bottling, bringing the total ageing period to 16–18 months. This approach is applied across the entire range, from Bourgogne Aligoté to Grand Crus such as Chevalier-Montrachet, with the aim of preserving the wines’ freshness above all.
The Wines of Domaine Bruno Colin
With 22 appellations, including eight Premier Cru white wines in Chassagne-Montrachet and two Grand Crus, Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet, Bruno Colin strives to reveal the unique character of each terroir, vineyards that may lie side by side yet express remarkably different identities. Among the cuvées available at RP Fine Wines, the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte is one of the estate’s most generous wines, combining power and precision with impressive consistency from one vintage to the next. Les Chenevottes, by contrast, charms with its lightness and freshness, supported by notes of white flowers and citrus fruit. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles, situated just north of the legendary Montrachet, completes this selection: a rare terroir, natural elegance, and a level of complexity that places it among the finest wines of Burgundy.
